What is diabetes and what causes diabetes? At what point does a person need diabetes treatment? It is classified as a metabolic disorder. We all know what metabolism is. If you have a fast metabolism, you have an easier time keeping your weight even and balanced, but if you struggle with metabolic difficulties, you may struggle with weight issues.

A good portion of what we eat is broken down into glucose, a source of sugar, and a good source of energy and fuel for our bodies. As our food digests, the glucose enters the bloodstream and our cells use it for energy and growth. However, this can only happen with the aid of insulin.

Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas. After you eat, the pancreas automatically releases the amount of insulin needed to move the glucose in our blood to our cells and our blood sugar is lowered. Diabetes is a condition in which the amount of glucose in the blood is higher than it should be. The body is either producing too much insulin, no insulin, or the cells that are not responding to the insulin that your body naturally produces.

The result is too much glucose building up in the blood. There are 3 types of diabetes. Types 1 and 2 are chronic medical conditions and require diabetes treatment. Type 3 is gestational diabetes which will usually resolve itself after pregnancy and will only require short term treatment generally consisting of watching what you eat and exercising regularly.

Each type of diabetes requires slightly different diabetes treatment. Type 1 diabetes requires insulin, regular exercise, and a diabetic diet. A person with type 2 diabetes focuses on a diabetic diet, exercise, and weight reduction. The diet centers around keeping your blood sugar levels in their target range.

If these measures fail to control the condition, then doctors make an addition to the diabetes treatment with oral medications. If the oral medication also fails to provide control, then insulin treatment is considered by the health care professional.

The importance of diabetes treatment cannot be stressed enough because there are serious side effects to diabetes that has not controlled. Weight reduction and exercise are very important not only for diabetic patients, but for all walks of life. For a person dealing with diabetes, weight reduction and exercise triggers the body’s sensitivity to insulin which, in turn, helps to control blood sugar elevations.

The best diabetes treatment is to learn to live a healthy lifestyle. Prescribed medicines can be useful and absolutely necessary, but they still cannot replace the importance of overall wellness. A person without diabetes needs to concentrate on eating right and exercising to the same degree as a person with diabetes.

The diet set forth by the American Diabetes Association can benefit any person that wants to eat a healthy diet. Diabetes runs down the generations many times, but this does not make you a sure candidate for the condition. If you concentrate on prevention and staying healthy, you may never need diabetes treatment.
