The only factor that diabetics have to consider before they choose their daily snack is that they have some restrictions relating to the daily calorie intake of different food groups.

For instance, their daily intake of calories should include 45 to 65% carbohydrates, 15 to 20% protein and 20 to 35% fats. Here are some ideas that diabetics can use without worrying about spiking their blood sugar level:


 

  • Fresh Vegetables

Fresh VegetablesAn excellent way to have a healthy snack is through fresh vegetables. People can fulfill their snack craving by eating vegetables that are high in minerals and vitamins, but low in terms of carbohydrates. Some vegetables that can be chosen by diabetic patients are broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots and radishes. It is quite easy to prepare these snacks and patients can carry them anywhere they go. These vegetables can be flavored up with dips like onion soup and sour cream mix and ranch dressing. An even better snack would be celery and peanut butter as they give an excellent protein boost.


 

  • Cheese

Easy access packaging is available for string cheese, which makes it easier for people to carry it around with them and use it for snacking whenever the urge strikes. Some delicious choices of cheese include provolone, cheddar and mozzarella. Not only is it a great source of protein for diabetic individuals, but cheese also incorporates calcium into their diet.


 

  • Fruits

FruitsWhile excessive fruits shouldnt be consumed by diabetics, taking them in moderation is regarded as healthy. Half a banana or half an apple can be added to the diet. Dip the fruit in peanut butter for adding protein to it. However, the additional fats and carbohydrates should also be considered. Other great snack options in terms of fruits include strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. They can be added to low-fat yogurt or simply eaten alone.

Getting ample protein in a day is a bit difficult for most diabetics. They can drink protein shakes such as the one thats made from whey protein for fulfilling their dietary needs of protein. It is essential to consume protein daily as it aids in the repairing of daily muscles and tissues in the body.
